Mario is an experienced MLRO and Head of Compliance with nearly 20 years' experience in organisational change, regulatory compliance, anti-money laundering and financial crime prevention. Having worked on various remediation and transformation projects (e.g., s.166 Skilled Person Reviews) in private, commercial and investment banking as well as the insurance industry and the Fintech and payments sector, he understands what regulators expect and how this can be done in practice. In addition to his career in financial services, Mario is the deputy chair of the Institute of Money Laundering Prevention Officers, and chief examiner for the Chartered Institute for Security & Investment's (CISI) regulation & compliance exam of the Diploma in Investment Compliance. He holds a PhD in Financial Services Law, Regulation and Compliance, an MSc in Criminology, as well as an MBA in Organisational Psychology, and regularly publishes in various professional and academic journals on topics related to money laundering, fraud, corruption and organisational change.
